Mitchell EEC
Yowalla from Mitchell EEC!
We are a Kindergarten and Long Day care centre that accommodates children from the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years, providing After School Care and Vacation Care services over the school term breaks. Our hours of operation are from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday until Friday. We are closed for four weeks over the Christmas holidays.
Educators aim to offer quality education and care every day through our enriched play-based programs where children’s voices are valued and agency is promoted.
At Mitchell EEC, we feel strongly connected to our community, having visits and attending excursions from Mitchell State School and St Patrick’s Catholic School. As well as participating in learning programs with Queensland Health, Anglicare Roma, Vital Health and parents to enhance the children’s learning.
We acknowledge the Gunggari people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, work, play and learn. We recognize the rights of each child, especially First Nations children and educators to be included and valued, embracing learning available to us from diverse cultural backgrounds. We have weekly visits from a Bidjara Elder, Aunty Dessy to engage with the children and build a connection with community.
MEET OUR DIRECTOR!
My name is Lynda Dorries, and I am the director of Mitchell EEC. I have worked in childcare for 12 years. I am one of six children and I have five children of my own, so I am always kept very busy. Being a single mum, I don’t have a lot of spare time, but when I do, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My weekends are usually spent being an energetic supporter of my children playing football. I like that my role is so diverse and differs every day; nothing makes me feel better than the children yelling my name and greeting me with a big hug and smile in the mornings. I enjoy building positive relationships with the families and my work family and feel privileged to see the different personalities of children and be a part of their individual learning journeys.
MEET OUR ECT/EDUCATIONAL LEADER!
My name is Lucy Morcom, and I am the ECT and Educational Leader at Mitchell EEC. I have been working in this role for 2 years, having previously worked in FGP Moreton’s After School Care service in Toowoomba for one year. Being the eldest of six children and studying a Bachelor at university, this was a large relocation for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with families and children and getting to know the community. I have always had an interest in young children, but I am particularly passionate about the 0-5 years. I feel privileged to share in a child’s learning journey while I support them to grow and achieve. I also feel privileged to be a positive role model to new and old educators and support them to be knowledgeable and confident early childhood educators.
